Hot Tip Out Of The Ovens

Just up the road from The Salty Cribb you’ll find the Ovens Park, a hidden Nova Scotia gem with majestic views of the Atlantic, a trail that winds along rocky cliffs, an eatery with live music throughout the summer and a rich history dating back to an 18the-century gold rush. Grab a bite on the deck and stare into the blue abyss and then work off those lobster roll calories on a short hike that takes you down into the “ovens” — natural caves carved out by centuries of waves crashing into rock cliffs. You can climb down and see the tunnels that disappear into blackness and follow the winding trail along the coastal shore overlooking Blue Rocks. There’s also camping spots for overnight or extended stays. And, you can pan for gold along the shore just like the original inhabitants searching for their fortunes. It’s a great find, minutes from the house.
